Hardwired IT fixes laptops that run hot, fans that roar or grind, and laptops that shut off on their own, on-site across Ottawa and Gatineau. We find the real cause first, whether it's dust, dried-out thermal paste, a failing fan or something rubbing inside the case, then fix it at your kitchen table, usually in one visit.
An Ottawa customer booked a visit because their laptop fan had started making a loud grinding noise and they assumed the fan was dying. Once the bottom case was open, the fan turned out to be fine: a rubber pad inside the case had come loose and was rubbing against the fan blades. The pad was secured, the fan checked, and the laptop was quiet again in about an hour, with no parts to buy.
That's why we diagnose before quoting. A loud fan doesn't always mean a new fan.

“Stephane went above and beyond during my service call. Diagnosed the issue and had parts to make the repair on the spot. His computer knowledge exceeds what you typically encounter from competitors.”
“Was very satisfied with Stephane and the results of all the work done. Did malware remediation, account security audit upgraded laptop with SSD and new battery, fix plug in port.”
Usually dust packed into the fan and heatsink, so the fan spins faster to move the same air. It can also be a program working the processor hard in the background, or something inside the case touching the fan. We find which one it is before changing anything.
Laptops protect themselves by slowing down or shutting off, so a sudden fire is rare, but constant heat wears out the battery, the fan and the motherboard faster. If it burns to the touch, shuts off on its own or the battery is swelling, stop using it and have it checked.
Yes. Cleaning, fan checks and thermal paste are done on-site at your kitchen table or desk in most cases. If a fan needs replacing and the part isn't on hand, we order it and come back.
Very often. Games and video calls push the processor and graphics chip hardest, and a clogged cooler can't keep up, so the laptop shuts down to protect itself. A cleaning and fresh thermal paste usually fixes it.
A cooling pad can lower temperatures a few degrees, but it doesn't remove the dust inside. Think of it as a help after the laptop has been cleaned, not a replacement for cleaning.
Most overheating and fan noise visits take about an hour on-site. Laptops that need to be fully opened take longer, and you get a free estimate before any work starts.
