Working From Home in Kanata

With the Kanata North tech park on March Road and a lot of hybrid workers, a big share of my Kanata calls are home offices: a work laptop that drops off the VPN, video calls that freeze in an upstairs office, or a new docking station that won't see the monitors.

• Unstable video calls: usually Wi-Fi, not your internet plan. A wired connection to the desk, or a mesh system with a wired link between units, fixes most of it.
• Older homes in Beaverbrook, Katimavik and Glen Cairn: the provider's modem often ends up in a basement corner, far from the office. Moving it or adding a properly placed access point makes a bigger difference than paying for a faster plan.
• Larger newer homes in Kanata Lakes and Morgan's Grant: one router rarely covers two floors plus a basement. I map the coverage first, then place units where they actually help.
• Work laptops: I fix the home side (network, printer, monitors, dock) without touching what your employer's IT manages.
